Beryl heading south to Texas
According to the National Hurricane Center, Beryl is expected to strengthen and become a hurricane later on Sunday, continuing to intensify overnight before reaching the Texas coast.
The National Weather Service office in Corpus Christi indicated that the cyclone is likely to be "a strong Category 1 hurricane" when it makes landfall.
Sustained winds of 75 mph or more would qualify the storm for Category 1 status, but the hurricane center noted that sustained winds of 85 mph were possible.
